3x-6=-24 solve for x 2/3x=6 solve for x 2x-3y=12, if y=4, solve for x If you are in algebra: 2x+2y=6 y=2x-6 solve for x Enjoy!

Wow, this is nice. I get to become a teacher without even realizing it. LOL.
Jess has figured these out already. She is one sharp girl.

Yes, Annabeth figured them out, though not as quickly. I am waiting for the rest of the students to answer first.

(P.S. Note: This is smantha NOT me, I know the answers!)
Samantha: *Rases hand* Excuse me! I really don't undestand it? Waht does the x after the 3 mean. And how can you subtract 6 from a number that starts with three to get -24? I really need some help.

And how can you subtract 6 from a number that starts with three to get -24? I really need some help. Um, I'll try and explain. Though maybe you should just go down to regular 7th grade math, Samantha. The x after the 3 is a variable that could be any number. The 3 means that 3 times that number, minus 6, equals -24. The way you solve is to "put horse with horses and cows with cows" as my wonderful pre-algebra teacher used to say. He means, put the variable, 3x, on one side of the equal sign, and the numbers on the other. Then you solve for x. For example: 3x-6=-24 [add the x to both sides to find what 3x equals] +6 +6 3x=- 18 [now you divide by 3 to find what just x is] 3 3 x=-6 [and TA DA! You figured it out. I'll explain the others if you understand this. Please prove you grasp this concept by doing the following: 3x-8=16 Until next time class! ~Professor Amanda (mollygirl)

Samantha? Please sit down and do your algebra homework. If you have switched to another class, you need to show me a note from your mother.

Samantha has decided that she is not ready for Algrabra. So she is going to go back to 7th grade math.
